3 Ways to Make Your Lifestyle More Sustainable
October 29th, 2020
With every passing year, it becomes increasingly important to think about sustainable practices we can do in our daily lives to create positive change for the environment, and for ourselves. Here are three ways that you can make your lifestyle more sustainable.
1. Fitness:
Sustainability isn’t just about keeping things green, it’s also about making
sure the way you live is sustainable for your body. This may seem simple
enough, but it’s another thing that gets more difficult as technology
advances. As more things are done remotely, more of our jobs require us to sit
in front of a computer screen for up to eight hours daily. With this in mind,
it’s important to monitor how much activity you’re getting in a week. Studies
show that getting 150 minutes of moderate activity a week is ideal to maintain
a healthy body.
If you’re not sure how to get started creating such habits, check out our blog
post,
Exercise and Heart Disease.
2. Durability:
You may have heard the mantra, “reduce, reuse, recycle.” While that is a
helpful way to remember how to throw things out, the most important way to
reduce waste is to not have to throw things out at all! In order to have less
waste, it’s important to buy durable products that you know will last a long
time.
That’s one of the reasons that we’ve opted to use bamboo for our tabletops.
Bamboo is a durable material that we know will take a long time to wear down.

our blog post
about the reasons we’ve decided to use bamboo for our tabletops.
3. Renewable Energy:
Of course, one of the biggest threats to the environment is how quickly we’re
using energy resources. Studies show that extracting and processing materials
used to create energy contributes to half of all greenhouse gas emissions,
which, as we know, are contributing to global warming and climate change.
Generating energy in all the traditional ways (nuclear energy, hydroelectric
power, etc) also creates waste, including radioactive waste that is difficult
to dispose of, and pollution that can lead to acid rain. Energy is one of the
things that we need to be thinking of the most when we consider
sustainability.
That’s why, for our Smart Under-the-Desk Bike, we’ve developed our
energy-harvesting system. Our bike is powered by your pedalling - every time
you pedal, you recharge the battery inside, which can generate up to 17V of
energy (most phones can be charged with 5V). To put that in perspective,
treadmills generally use around 120V, which means more power consumption. With
our energy harvesting system, you create your own energy - which means it’s
renewable, and doesn’t create waste.
Those are just some of our ideas on how to lead a more sustainable lifestyle.
The most important thing to remember is that sustainability doesn’t have to be
difficult. Even something as simple as repurposing old items, or investing a
little more in something that will last longer, can significantly diminish
your environmental footprint, and have a positive effect on the environment,
and on your own lifestyle.
